Voice Interface

The next generation in-car voice system.

Project information

I was one of 3 core team members who spearheaded the complete redesign of the in-car voice system. I began the process by pinpointing the current issues with speech dialogues and the corresponding interactions. My team defined principles for both digital and dialogue interactions. From there I dove deeper into the needs of the user defining use cases, creating flows, prototyping, testing, creating final screen PSDs, and visualizing the voice feedback look & feel.

I worked with the in house development team to make sure implementation of these designs worked properly in the final product. You can see the results in the 2019 S-Class models.

Role: ux, interaction & visual designer

The following is placeholder text known as “lorem ipsum,” which is scrambled Latin used by designers to mimic real copy. Aenean eu justo sed elit dignissim aliquam. Fusce at massa nec sapien auctor gravida in in tellus. Maecenas non leo laoreet, condimentum lorem nec, vulputate massa.

These wireframes outline the assets that are needed throughout the voice UI. These particular screens are responses to dialogue interactions: mini VUI, tiled results, map results, messages, and weather.

I created all the heroscreens and layouts for the entire voice system (Photoshop), including 18 individual backgrounds for the weather screens to indicate different weather patterns for day and night.
